PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

What skills does your character bring to the situation?

The most obvious skill Bucky brings to the table is beyond-superior combat; Bucky has been reprogrammed to become arguably the most brutally efficient killing machine in history. Were someone able to trigger the code hard-wired into his brain he could accomplish any task with borderline superhuman determination, and he could do it utilizing any weapon or intricate detail. Even without the Hydra override he retains most of that skill, but does so in a much more grounded and humanized way. You’d be hard-pressed to have better backup than him. In addition to combat itself, he has associated combat-related side-skills such as field medical and basic survival.

Aside from combat, if you ask him, he brings precious little to the table. Unless you’re trying to live an incognito life devoid of attention or meaning, he’s been ill-equipped to handle modern day life. What social talents he did have before the war took a hard hit during his reprogramming, and he’s only just starting to recover them thanks to some intensive Wakandan therapy and a little r&r.

Perhaps one of the hardest to define things he brings to the table is a quiet, confident sort of moral support. He isn’t in the habit of leading causes, in his words he doesn’t do that anymore, but when he finds someone to align with his loyalty and willingness to follow make him a sturdy support in any mission. He’s also gotten really good at tossing bales of hay with one arm.

Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game?

Bucky's screen time is generally restricted to interactions with Steve, and because of the grand scale of the cast he's often pushed into the background rather than having the ability to develop anything meaningful with anyone else. It'll be interesting to explore Bucky slowly relearning to build social ties while still dealing with his past trauma and his detachment from society for so long.

His time in Wakanda has done him a great service, elevating him from full-blown PTSD to what looks like the groundworks of something functional, so a small and personal island like 6I will give him the opportunity to branch out and interact with actual humans that aren't from Brooklyn in the 1920s-1940s. In addition, the plots and occasional danger will add a layer of complexity to processing his history and dealing with specific things that might trigger the weaponized side of himself.

How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any?

In general, Bucky's going to feel a little useless and lost without something to fight. It isn't even that he wants to fight anymore, but he's of the state of mind that it's the only thing he's good at. Having done little else but war in the last eighty years he'll have a hard time finding meaningful ways to contribute. That being said, he's certainly going to try.

At the end of Black Panther and during the beginning of Infinity War we see him struggling to contribute to the Wakandan community. He sticks to the outskirts in farming villages, and seems to be trying his hand at farming and general farm work. Manual labor will be something he falls back into, and will probably try farming or fixing things where he can. A part of him will probably think it feels good to grow and build rather than destroy for once.

As for how he'll fit in, well, he'll probably keep a low profile at least initially. He's not really a crowds kind of guy, at least, not the kind that seeks attention in them. He'll show up to events and quietly observe them, and if he finds an opportunity to make conversation with someone in the background he'll try his hand in it. He won't be one of the people popping up trying to lead, but he'll develop a small handful of people he'll eventually call friends and he'll look out for them fiercely.

How will your character react to...

Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable?

Having been displaced almost his entire life, he's probably more equipped to handle it than most people. The only person he'll be upset about losing is Steve, and he may look for opportunities where possible to contact the man. Other than that he had no real attachments on Earth, and only loosely began to build connections in Wakanda. Aside from Steve, he's got no home to go back to anyway.

Part of him might even see it as a relief; breaking ties with the Winter Soldier's reputation and the fact that James Barnes is a wanted criminal in the eyes of the law. Possibly at the top of the FBI's most wanted list, though that's probably switched up every other day depending on who the big bad in town is at the time.

He won't even be terribly upset about the fact that his metal arm isn't as strong as it used to be, he views it as sort of a weapon now and hopes that where he is doesn't necessitate weapons anymore. That being said, even without it he's got the skills to defend himself.

Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them?

Without an inspiring leader, Bucky's likely to internalize the fact that the area seems to be keeping them where they are. Initially he's likely to shrug it off, because as long as nothing's trying to kill them and they can live in peace and in plenty, he won't see much of a reason to push the status quo.

That may change, however, if someone inspiring were to make a valid case for getting them out. If he sees people suffering, if he sees a desperate desire to get home for a moving cause, he may participate in any actions necessary to get people a way home. He'll help others leave and make himself useful for a Good Purpose, but that purpose isn't really his own. Not yet, anyway.

Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before?

Being physically or mentally manipulated is probably the first and only thing so far that would genuinely bother him. Bucky is only recently starting to develop a sense of mental control and bodily autonomy, having it stripped from him is something he'll definitely rebel against. Something small like the addition of the permanent communications device might just be irksom, another articial implant on his body that he gets no control over, but he'll be able to get past that.

Hallucinations, however, especially ones that invoke a fight response, will take a much harder toll on his mental state. He doesn't really trust himself not to hurt people anymore, and being influenced to do so will be a set back in his confidence. Any type of event or incident that causes his mind to lose physical control over his body will also upset him, and dealing with the fallout of that will be a grand old angst fest for him to process. Much in the same regard, anything that influences his brain and his ability to control his own mind will cause more aggravation in him than it might in a normal person, and depending on the situation may cause him to either become hostile or to regress away from society in order to protect it, and by extension, his own guilt.

POWERS & SPECIAL ABILITIES

The serum given to him by Hydra enhances his strength and agility to just close to superhuman levels. In addition, he ages slower and heals faster.
His metal arm is wicked strong and does punchy grabby stuff real good. What a super power.
